Rocky Mountain from the Baltic Sea

The cathedral was over but there was a displeasure in the mind. In these religious institutions, I really created many questions in my mind, whose answer was never found. Let’s worship at the place of worship and go back and get involved in violence. Come again again. But why come? Is it only for the sake of self-interest, in the hope of salvation from all wrongdoing, crime and immoral activities? Or, after the death, many luxuries, such as Aparsara and Hoorpuri, where the luxury arrangements are there? Is it so easily available? Is it easy to get rid of all the wrongs, unethical work, harm done in human welfare? If it is so, then man can not be prevented from doing any of these deeds on any given day. And the peace that we see will never be fulfilled. It seems that every teaching should be taught from every house of worship, which means that the criminal should be punished according to the seriousness of the crime that he committed. The crime is not freed. In reality religion can not discipline all human beings. It is not possible because every society in every country requires the law courts so much that it would not have been possible to govern the country without the court’s law. Depending on religious conduct and discipline, the overall prosperity of a country is never possible. Since this fact was realized by the intellectuals in the beginning of human civilization, they did not assign the responsibility of governing the country on religious rule.

Neutrality does not look good in anything, if there is not a diversity, many good humorous fantasies can lead to unhappiness; On the other hand, there is no way of understanding what the doctors and grandfather and our leader Chitra Boudi all leave in company with all the plans in the open market. This historic open market is one of Helsinki’s most interesting and important issues, especially to tourists. So it must be there immediately. Otherwise know what happens. In fact, the tension in the stomach, whether it is anything or not, is to find a way out. This market is the best place to find ways, eating food and buying. We went to the cathedral, passing the light sloping trail behind it. But when we came down the stairs took us straight to High Street. After crossing the road again, the charming Peninsula carries the corner of the beautiful ornamental harbor, from which there is no problem getting the sight of our carrying tank. That’s the cruise ship terminal. And there are some structures that have been built around the terminal, which is a way of entertaining foreigners – foreigners. Here, another circular circle continues like a law-like ii. However, it seems to be a little smaller in size than the law. Whatever tiny or taller it is, the taste of climbing will not be complacent. It has long been understood because of shortage of time.

To say that we came to the market. There is a lot of talk about this market. It can be compared to the rural-Bangladesh weekly market in Bangladesh. There is no permanent shop except for two, as there is no permanent store in the village-ganj. Every day the shopkeepers sit in tents and wait for the buyer. Or try to attract buyers to call the buyers. Here is the same picture. The differences are just different countries, different cultures and different events. One thing to mention is that cleanliness All things are arranged in a tidy way, which is a wonderful example of civilization.

This market square is called a phonetic language, and it is no doubt that this market is also one of the most interesting places of Finlay – Central Square and tourists. It seems like the people of Ananta here have seen the meeting. Who is busy trying to buy his favorite accessories, and we turn around and show the market well. The market is not such a big thing, but signs of diversity are obvious in the combination of product content. Nothing was done to buy. However, as soon as it came out of the temporary hotels of the food to return, suddenly it seemed as if Madhya Pradesh was already empty. Without waiting for the belly, you will not mind. I concentrated on food selection with deep concentration instead of thinking about other thoughts. If you see different types of flavors and tasty food in these temporary food shops, hunger will soon come. Besides preparing ready-to-eat foods, hot food is also available. Not everyone knows the name of the food, but I did not make mistakes in my appearance with the two items to see my favorite hot fish, but with different salads. There is no way of taking enough care about food. Without any hesitation, the quality of food here is good and good. Good day fish fishes are really delicate for filling fish, especially those who are fans of fish. Not everyone is a fan of fish, but very few people in this temporary hotel were found to be absent from the fish. But whatever I say to the fish, my weakness is from that childhood, whether it is fishing or eat, there is no shortage of interest in both. This is not the one who laughs at the other two. While working in the United States of Tanzania, my local colleague said, ‘Das is you fish edged’. Usually we could not find fish in the place where we worked on the rehabilitation of refugees in Rua-Burma border. But one week in the Lake Victorian delicious three to four kgs of fresh weight

Qatar is the richest country, poor Africa republic

Qatar is the richest country, poor Africa republic

The high-rise building is being constructed in Qatar’s capital city of Doha
Qatar, the richest country in the world, retains the top position as the richest country in the world. And the fate of becoming the poorest country is the Central African Republic of Africa. Global Finance Magazine has selected these two countries as the world’s richest and poorest countries on the basis of GDP per capita and purchasing power parity.

Bangladesh has 143 of the 189 countries in this list. That means 46 percent of the world’s poorest countries are in the middle and 142 steps from the richest Qatar country, Qatar is behind. Bangladesh maintains its position as a low-income income country.

Considering the creation of a list of the most wealthy and poor countries, the size of the gross domestic product (GDP) calculated on purchasing power parity (PPP) According to the list, the size of GDP per capita per PPP is as high as the country in which the country is as rich. According to the ‘World Economic Outlook’ report published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) till October 2016, the report was compiled by calculating per capita GDP in PPP dollars of each country.

To compare economies of different countries, the size of GDP is calculated based on PPP. PPP is the exchange rate of any country’s currency, which is different from the current market price. Suppose, a group of products and services can be purchased with 100 taka in Bangladesh, which costs US $ 2 to buy. As such, the exchange value of money with US Dollar will stand at 50 rupees. That is, 1 dollar is equal to 50 rupees in PPP

Explaining the rich country elections, it has been said that the best way to understand how very rich a citizen of a country is, how much their purchasing power is. It is assumed that the citizens of one country are able to fulfill all the needs they need to live their lives.

According to the report, now Qatar’s people’s per capita income is 1, 29, 000 dollars. Despite being able to hold the top position as a wealthy country, Qatar’s per capita income declined by $ 15,000 in last one year due to the high oil prices. Although it is about 28 thousand dollars more than the per capita income of Luxemburg, the second richest country in the list.

Qatar’s economics in the Gulf of the Middle East depend on fuel oil. The size of GDP of just 2.6 million population is 33 thousand 393 million dollars. 85 percent of the country’s export earnings comes from petroleum exports. Qatar also has a large amount of natural gas. Along with the abundance of natural resources, Qatar has made significant contribution to the economic development of the expatriate citizens from different countries.

Qatar has been the richest country for some years. Whether it will be able to retain it in the future, it is made of uncertainty. Because Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the seven Middle East countries have cut off all kinds of economic and diplomatic relations with Qatar. The complaints of these countries, Qatar has created territorial instability and terrorism in the Middle East. Experts say Qatar’s economy will be in a big crisis if the problem is not resolved. The development that is now in Qatar around the 2022 Football World Cup, can all be uncertain. In this case. It could risk the employment of over three hundred Bangladeshi workers working in the country at risk.

Apart from Qatar, there are five more countries on the continent of Asia in the top ten. Among them, Macau is third, Singapore fourth, Brunei Darussalam fifth, Kuwait sixth and UAE 9th. Ireland is seventh, Norway eighth and San Marino are in the tenth place.

An analysis of the list provides a common match between the top ten richest countries. The match is the United Arab Emirates, each country is very small in volume. The population is relatively less than these countries. Just as San Marino’s size is only 61 square kilometers. The population of the country is more than 33 thousand.

All of the top ten of the poor countries in Africa are on the continent. The Central African Republic, which has one number, has a per capita income of only $ 656. The remaining countries in the top ten are Congo, Burundi, Liberia, Niger, Malawi, Mozambique, Guinea, Eritrea and Madagascar respectively. Of these, Congo’s per capita income is $ 784; Bururi 818, Liberia 882, Niger 1 thousand 113, Malawi 1 thousand 139, Mozambique’s 1,228, Guinea’s 1 thousand 271, Eritrea 1,1321 and Madagascar $ 1,504.

In addition to the natural resources of Luxembourg, Singapore and Switzerland in the top ten, the financial sector is another major source of income. Money being trafficked from different countries can be easily placed in these three countries.

No party has achieved a single majority in the United Kingdom election results so far. Then answered questions on how to form the government BBC Online

Which party is the most MP, will that party form the government?

It should not be so, it is not. After the counting of all 650 parliamentary votes in the parliament, the majority of the MPs elected from the party were generally declared the winners. The leader of that party almost always became the next prime minister.
But if any party does not get a clear majority then it can not be. The team that is in second place, the team can form the government with the assistance of another team.

When a party wins?

The easiest way to become a Prime Minister is to achieve the majority of the lower house of parliament, House of Commons. The majority of the MPs elected from the party are the majority party. A party can formally form the government if it wins 326 seats and can introduce new legislation in parliament. If no other party is single, then it will be ‘hanging parliament’.
After the election, Prime Minister Theresa May came out of the Conservative Party’s headquarters in London. Photo: Reuters
What is hanging parliament?
When a party does not get adequate MPs to achieve a single majority, then the uncertain situation exists in the formation of parliament as a ‘hanging parliament’. This was done in the 2010 general election.

What will happen if hanging parliament?

In this situation, the current ruling Conservative Party will remain in power until the new government is formed and will live in Theresa May Downing Street.
At this stage, the meeting will be held between the leaders of the party. They will try to form a coalition government. In that case, the conservative party may be formed by the leader of the Conservative Party, Theresa May or Labor Party leader Jeremy Kehlin.
Or the leader of a group of two groups can form a minor minority government on the basis of the support of the other smaller parties. Here is the necessary legal approval issue.

Who will get the opportunity to form this kind of coalition government?

Theresa may get the opportunity to form government first in May. During this discussion, he will be in power as the Prime Minister. But it is not that during the thesis of Thereseen I’ll be sitting. If Theresa fails in this regard and Jeremy has succeeded, then Theresa has to resign. Then the Prime Minister will be

Study suggests importance of regular sleep schedule

Study suggests importance of regular sleep schedule

The preliminary results of a new US study suggest that waking up later on weekends than during the week is contributing to a variety of health problems, as well as making us feel even more tired, reports AFP. Known as “social jet lag,” the sleep pattern appears to be an important circadian marker for future health according to the study from the Sleep and Health Research Program at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Led by senior author Michael A Grandner, the team used data from the community-based Sleep and Healthy Activity, Diet, Environment, and Socialization (SHADES) study to look at survey responses from 984 adults between 22 and 60. Participants were asked about their weekday and weekend sleep schedules, as well as sleep duration, insomnia, cardiovascular disease, fatigue, and sleepiness.

The results of the study, published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, showed that social jetlag is associated with poorer health, worse mood, and increased sleepiness and fatigue, and that each hour of social jet lag is also associated with an 11-percent increase in the likelihood of heart disease.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that adults should sleep for seven or more hours each night on a regular basis to help achieve optimal health, however the new study also highlights the importance of a regular sleep schedule, with lead author Sierra B Forbush commenting that, “These results indicate that sleep regularity, beyond sleep duration alone, plays a significant role in our health.”

“This suggests that a regular sleep schedule may be an effective, relatively simple, and inexpensive preventative treatment for heart disease as well as many other health problems.”

Preliminary results from another study from American Academy of Sleep Medicine along with the Sleep Research Society has also found that a regular sleep pattern can help boost health and improve the happiness and well-being of college students.

Presented Monday June 5 at SLEEP 2017, the 31st Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC (APSS) in Boston and with an abstract published in an online supplement of SLEEP, the study was carried out by the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and MIT Media Lab Affective Computing Group.

The team looked at 204 college students between the ages of 18 and 25, monitoring their sleep timing and duration and asking participants for self-reports on their well-being, including happiness, healthiness, and calmness. The results showed that a higher level of sleep regularity was significantly related to a higher level of happiness in the morning and evening, and higher levels of healthiness and calmness throughout the week. Those who moved from an irregular weekly sleep pattern to a regular one also benefited from improved well-being, both during the week of regular sleep and on the day after a night of regular sleep.

Health experts today suggested destroying all potential mosquito breeding sources as the outbreak of chikungunya disease in the capital has increased sharply this year.

“A huge number of chikungunya cases have been reported in Dhaka city this season. The situation has been unchanged since the outbreak of this mosquito-borne disease,” Senior Scientific Officer of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr SM Alamgir told BSS.

“We get 30 to 35 samples for chikungunya case every day. Of the samples, the rate of positive cases is 60 to 70 percent,” he added.

Dr Alamgir said a massive awareness campaign is needed to destroy the breeding sources of mosquito for stopping outbreak of chikungunya disease.

“Alongside eliminating the breeding sources of mosquito, people should be educated on the diseases as there is no special treatment of the diseases, he said.”

“Chikungunya affected people should drink much water and take full rest. There is no need of any laboratory test as the diseases could be recognized easily by observing some common symptoms,” Dr Alamgir added.

Many people spend money unnecessarily for laboratory tests as they lack knowledge on the disease, he added.

Prof Tahmina Shirin of IEDCR said, “As per chikungunya sample tests, Dhaka city is witnessing a record number of chikungunya cases. This is the highest outbreak of the disease in Bangladesh,”

“We have to focus on preventive measures, including destroying mosquito breeding sources to check outbreak of chikungunya disease,” she added.

People should not get panicked over Chikungunya as there is no alarming clinical features of the disease, Prof Tahmina said adding that no emergency medical treatment requires for the diseases as it is easily curable.

At a press conference held recently, Director General of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul kalam Azad, “Chikungunya is not serious like other mosquito-borne diseases. After a particulate time, patients get recovery without receiving any special medical treatment.”

Chikungunya infected patients should not be admitted to hospitals and even they do not need to go to hospitals for any test to diagnose the disease, he added.

Director of IEDCR Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora said chikungunya is a viral disease which is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes.

Chikungunya was first described during an outbreak in southern Tanzania in 1952, she said, adding the outbreak of the disease has increased 30 times higher in the past 50 years.

Health experts said symptoms of the disease appear between four and seven days after a person is bitten by any infected mosquito. Chikungunya is characterised by an abrupt onset of high fever frequently accompanied by joint pain.

Other common signs and symptoms of the disease include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash, they said adding the joint pain is often very debilitating, but usually lasts for a few days or may be prolonged to weeks. Hence the virus can cause acute, sub-acute or chronic disease.bss

Europe’s hidden coasts: the Deep Mani, Greece

Europe’s hidden coasts: the Deep Mani, Greece

Few tourists venture beyond the Mani’s spectacular Diros caves, but further south lies a dramatic coastline of sleepy fishing coves and fortified villages.

The Mani, the central southern prong of mainland Greece, is divided into two halves. The Outer Mani, with the pretty coastal villages of Kardamyli and Stoupa, is now well known for offering a more authentic holiday experience than many of the islands. The Deep Mani, further south, is a different prospect, with its rugged coastline broken by only the occasional cove. Far fewer people visit here, and even fewer stay.

The Deep Mani starts at the town of Areopoli, above Itylo Bay. Its best-known attraction is on the coast just south of there, and gives you a taste of just how deep this area can get. The Diros caves are extensive and spectacular, but their unique selling point is that you explore them on a punt with your very own underworld ferryman, with the stalactites reflecting in the crystal-clear water.

Most people get no farther than this, but it is well worth carrying on down the coast, where the tourist coaches disappear and even other traffic is rather sparse. Sticking to the coast brings you to sleepy fishing coves like Mezapos, where the fisherman can sometimes be persuaded to take you out to the ruins of the castle on Tigani (frying pan rock). The countryside here is dotted with small, domed Byzantine churches rich in frescoes, but usually kept locked, as well as the distinctive Maniat towerhouses, small clan fortresses.

The small roads wind and intersect randomly, but if you continue roughly southwards you will soon find yourself descending the dramatic bluff of Cavo Grosso, down to the pretty village of Gerolimenas, set round a pebble beach. If you want to stay in the Deep Mani, this is one of your best options. It’s by no means a resort, but there are a few options for all budgets. The village was once well-known for its export of quails (over 7,000 a month to France in the 1870s) and the old warehouses have been converted into the Kyramai (doubles from around £85 B&B) – a gorgeous place that pays full attention to local history and tradition, both in its buildings and food.

Continuing south, the rocky peninsula starts to narrow, as its east and west coasts rush to their meeting. Vathia, perched high above the sea, shows just how extraordinary this area once was. While many villages have one or two towerhouses, Vathia sprouts a forest of them. It looks like a medieval fantasy, but clan wars were taking place here, often from one side of the windy streets to another, well into the 19th century. The coasts almost do meet between Porto Kagio and Marmari. The former, on the east coast, is named after the quails which were caught here in outstretched nets, before being shipped out of Gerolimenas. Nowadays there is a shingle beach and a couple of fish tavernas, mostly used by the odd yacht that pulls into the bay. To the west, Marmari has a couple of sandy coves, rare for this rocky coast, and above them sits the aptly named Marmari Paradise (doubles €60 B&B) offering good value stone-built rooms and a taverna.

If the Diros caves felt like the underworld, then the real thing lurks further to the south. Cape Tenaro (also known as Cape Matapan) separates the Aegean from the Ionian Sea, and in antiquity supposedly hid an entrance to Hades, through which Hercules dragged the three-headed dog Cerberus as one of his 12 tasks. Its exact location is disputed now, but Tenaro still has an end of the world feel. A half-hour walk takes you to the lighthouse at the cape itself. This is the southernmost tip of mainland eastern Europe; directly south lie the sands of Libya.

Those who thought the west coast of the Deep Mani was remote should now head up the east coast. Here the mountains drop dramatically straight down into the sea and the scattered villages, with their inevitable towerhouses, get few visitors. The first swimming option is the white pebbles and clear waters of Abela beach. You will generally have this to yourself, but be warned there are no facilities. Further north the pebble beaches of Kokkala are more accessible, if less attractive, and the village has a taverna and rooms to rent. The tower houses of Nyfi hide a small, but perfectly-formed, little bay, overlooked by another taverna.

If you’re seeking sand on this side of the Mani, head for Skoutari. This “local secret” has two shingle and sand beaches backed by a classic little domed Greek church and a whitewashed taverna with tables right on the sand. There are basic rooms here, but more comfortable accommodation can be had in the nearby Skoutari Beach Hotel (doubles from €55). From here you can loop back easily to the “civilisation” of Stoupa and Kardamyli, or continue to the bustling and pretty port of Gythio.

• The Mani is easily accessible, with British Airways flying from Heathrow and easyJet from Gatwick to Kalamata (summer only), an hour’s drive north of Kardamyli. Those wanting to explore the Deep Mani really need their own transport: My Car Rentals is particularly recommended. The coast of the Deep Mani can be explored in a day, but it’s better to stay and soak in the atmosphere. Be aware that the roads, while generally good, are winding and dramatic.

FIVE MORE ON HIDDEN GEMS ON THE GREEK MAINLAND COAST

Perfect beach

Voidokilia beach looks like a transplant from the Caribbean, with a perfect hemisphere of white sand backed by a lagoon renowned for its birdlife, including flamingos. Nearby are plenty of places to stay and eat, including the long reliable Zoe Resort (doubles €70 B&B).

Greece’s culinary capital

Eating in a shop doesn’t sound immediately appealing, but do try Ergon’s Agora in Thessaloniki. A beautiful space in Greece’s increasingly popular second city, and a reasonably priced showcase for modern Greek food, such as the yellow fava bean dip from the plain of Feneos, near Corinth, is given a lift with smoked pork from the Mani and a swirl of truffle oil (€6). All dishes are served with lovely home-baked flat breads, and it’s very family friendly too.

Volcanic peninsula

The peninsula of Methana looks like a balloon about to float away from the mainland. The description is apt as there is plenty of hot air around – this first becomes apparent at the sulphurous Vromolimni (“pongy pool”) whose spa baths have been restored. Head north to Kaimeni Hora (“burnt village”) for a walk through the dramatic rock formations left by an eruption mentioned by Ovid.

Aristotelian stumper

Halkida straddles the island of Evia, of which it is capital, and the mainland. An old wrought iron bridge connects the two, sliding away to let big ships past. The current here changes direction every six hours, a still-inexplicable phenomenon that drove Aristotle to despair. Contemplate it from one of the famed fish tavernas of this authentic Greek town.
Escape the January bluesAristotelian stumper

Patras is a workaday port/university town whose chief attraction for travellers is the daily ferries to Italy. All this changes in late January when the city holds one of the largest carnivals in Europe. The Greeks do this kind of celebration well – think huge float parades and deafening fireworks.

Nicole Kidman, Janelle Monáe and Raf Simons at CFDA Awards

Nicole Kidman, Janelle Monáe and Raf Simons at CFDA Awards

The red carpet had been unfurled outside the Hammerstein Ballroom on West 34th Street, and stars like Nicole Kidman and Diane Kruger were on parade.“I had such butterflies outside,” said Ellie Kemper, the redheaded star of Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” who came as a guest of Kate Spade. “I felt like, wow, this is the Oscars of fashion.”

Well, it is and it isn’t. “The CFDAs are called the Oscars of fashion,” Seth Meyers, the host of the evening’s show, said from the stage in his opening monologue. “But just by you guys.” The line got a big laugh, including from Lupita Nyong’o, an actual Academy Award winner.

The CFDAs, the American fashion industry’s annual awards, are as starry an evening as American fashion offers, short of the Met Gala. But they are thankfully not as stuffy as most industry awards, or as self-consciously grand as the Oscars, though they are nearly as long. Tequila is served with dinner, and it’s not uncommon to hear winners’ tables slamming down shots as supermodels stalk down the center aisle en route to a cigarette or bathroom break.

“Someone’s hair is literally on fire,” Meg Ryan said to her date, the designer Christian Siriano, as an acrid smell perfumed the preshow cocktail hour.

But for designers, especially those nominated for awards, the evening is a rare chance to party with the women (and men) who wear their clothes, let their hair down and relax.“I’m honestly just really excited to catch up with everyone that I never get to see because everyone’s too busy to socialize,” said Fernando Garcia, one half of the label Monse, which ended up taking the Swarovski Award for emerging talent. He and his partner, Laura Kim, had brought Ms. Kruger and the models Erin Wasson and Kasia Struss as dates. “Erin was Laura’s muse and Kasia was my muse, and we’re bringing both,” he said.

Sander Lak, the designer of Sies Marjan, also nominated in the emerging category, had come with the actress Brit Marling, wearing matching shades of what they learned was rechristened Millennial Pink.

“I’m just really excited to be here with Brit,” Mr. Lak said. “We’re just going to sit in the corner like the two nerds we are and gossip. And talk about Season 2 of ‘The OA.’ I need to know how that ends.”

After a salmon dinner was served and cleared, the awards began in earnest: Raf Simons, the new chief creative officer of Calvin Klein, swept both the men’s and the women’s wear categories, despite having only a single Calvin Klein show to his credit. Stuart Vevers of Coach won the award for accessory designer of the year. Kenneth Cole, Rick Owens, Pat McGrath and Demna Gvasalia of Vetements and Balenciaga all took honorary prizes.

The ceremony took an emotional turn when Anna Wintour, holding back tears, paid tribute to Franca Sozzani, the editor of Italian Vogue who died in December 2016, and whose son (and Ms. Wintour’s future son-in-law) accepted a Fashion Icon award on her behalf.

The night ended with three women — Janelle Monáe; Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund; and Gloria Steinem — accepting a joint tribute. Ms. Steinem, in bedazzled pants by her friend Michael Kors, praised the crowd for its “wokeness,” a term that hasn’t always fit the fashion industry well.

Earlier in the evening, Ms. Steinem said that it was to be her first CFDA Awards, and spoke about the difficulties facing women’s rights. “It’s very dangerous,” she said, “but there is now more activism than I have ever seen in my lifetime.”

She has seen that rise in fashion, too. “Style is important self-expression,” she said, “and it’s good to make clothes instead of guns.”

Famous Pop’s Women Shakira, Pharrell join anti-poverty concert

Famous Pop’s Women Shakira, Pharrell join anti-poverty concert

Pop superstars Shakira and Pharrell Williams announced Wednesday that they will join the first Global Citizen festival in Europe to push leaders to end extreme poverty.

The 6 July concert in Hamburg, a spin-off of the festival that takes place each year in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, comes during a summit of the Group of 20 major economies.
Shakira and Williams, both long involved in charity, will join already announced acts Coldplay, Ellie Goulding and chart-topping electronic duo The Chainsmokers.
Shakira said the concert would press governments to recommit to the UN-backed Sustainable Development Goals which aim to end the worst forms of poverty by 2030.
“As Global Citizens that we are, I believe we can be the first generation to make sure children everywhere have access to quality education, health care and proper nutrition to break the cycle of poverty in which millions of people are still trapped,” the Colombian pop sensation said in a statement.
Williams, creator of the viral hit “Happy,” added: “The next generation deserves a better future. Let’s make sure our leaders commit the resources necessary to bring millions out of extreme poverty across the globe.”
The summit’s message comes at a trying time as US President Donald Trump is a staunch critic of foreign assistance, proposing steep cuts in aid to put “America First.”
Global Citizen distributes tickets for free to supporters who pledge to take actions which include writing their leaders to support foreign assistance.
The festival also expanded in November to India, where 80,000 fans came out in Mumbai for artists including Coldplay and rap great Jay Z.
The Hamburg edition, which will be livestreamed on YouTube, will also feature major German stars including Andreas Bourani and the previously announced Herbert Gronemeyer.
More than 10 percent of people in the world lived on $1.90 or less each day in 2013, although the figure has tumbled by 25 percentage points since 1990 amid concerted global efforts, according to World Bank data.

London stocks, pound dip as Britons vote

London stocks, pound dip as Britons vote

LONDON: The London stock market and pound slid on Thursday, with investors nervous as Britons vote in a snap general election.

Contributing to a news-heavy day was also an ECB meeting at which the central bank hinted at the end of its easy monetary policy, describing a rosier outlook for the eurozone and dropping a long-standing commitment to cutting interest rates yet further if necessary, and a crucial testimony by sacked FBI chief James Comey in the United States.

"Super Thursday is finally here," said analyst Konstantinos Anthis at ADS Securities, referring to the key events on both sides of the Atlantic.

The British capital's FTSE 100 index, which initially rose and then eased back, ended the day with a loss of 0.4 percent. The pound also slid.

Britain's Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May is still set to beat main opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, despite a recent narrowing in the opinion polls.

Results are not due until early Friday.

"The UK stock market would prefer a Tory victory as the party is more in favour of free market economics than Labour," said market analyst David Madden at CMC Markets.

"The ground lost by the Conservatives in the past couple of weeks has rattled some traders," he added.

The election is May's first since taking office in July last year, after Britons voted by 52 percent to leave the European Union.

The premier called the election three years early in a bid to strengthen her slender majority going into Brexit talks, which begin on June 19, but some polls have suggested she may end up with a hung parliament in which the Conservatives would fall short of the 326 seats needed for a majority.

While the pound dipped on Thursday, it was still holding onto gains made after May called the early election.

"The pound's recent steady performance suggests a clear win for Theresa May is discounted," NFS Macro analyst Nick Stamenkovic told AFP.

"Indeed, the pound is vulnerable to a hung parliament or the outside risk of a Labour victory."

ECB dovish and hawkish

Meanwhile in the eurozone, Frankfurt stocks pushed higher while Paris was flat after the ECB decided, as expected, to keep its ultralow interest rates unchanged and said it would continue its 60-billion-euro ($67.4 billion) monthly bond purchases to December.

The central said it saw fewer risks to the eurozone economy as it increased its growth forecasts while cutting those for inflation.

The euro retreated against the dollar after the ECB's announcement.

"The central bank made every effort to retain a relatively neutral stance overall, balancing any hawkish or dovish statement with something roughly equal and opposite," said market analyst Craig Erlam at OANDA currency traders.

"The fact that it no longer expects interest rates to remain at present 'or lower' levels is a clear deliberate signal that policy makers are gradually becoming more hawkish and yet it also claimed that they could increase the asset purchase program or continue until the end of 2017, or beyond, if necessary," he added.

Comey revelations?

Investors remained on tenterhooks as Comey gave public testimony before a congressional committee, which could be damaging to US President Donald Trump and his economy-boosting agenda.

Wall Street stocks were stalled in late morning trading.

Comey said Wednesday that Trump had urged him to drop a probe into former national security advisor Michael Flynn. During his testimony on Thursday, Comey withheld judgment on whether this amounted to obstruction of justice.

In Asia on Thursday, Shanghai and Hong Kong led most markets higher after Chinese trade data beat forecasts.
